Life can be hard. Unless of course you have faith. Faith does not remove trials and obstacles, but it does remove the confusion and allows us to face these life difficulties as the growth opportunities that they are. Daniel seems to be so unfazed even when threatened by the most powerful man on earth. I think that is because Daniel’s faith is in the dream giver, the king maker, and the creator of all things. If God is for us, who can be against us. What are you going through in life. I hope things are going wonderful, but if you are going through trials, remember this: “God has made known the dream of kings!”

This week we will be starting a series on Daniel. Daniel has always been a hero of mine. His loyalty to the Father is breathtaking! When he was a teenager, he purposed in his heart to follow the word of God. He was trained with the best education that the world had to offer, but he chose to lean on the Lord. He become a highly respected wise man while in enemy territory. He faced constant threat, but his love of the Lord kept him above the fray. Daniel was a man who could not be shaken. I want to be a Daniel! Which means I have to love the Lord like Daniel did!

I remember when Fran came through NC. We went without power for a week. I remember my mother getting up the day after that horrible night and asking everyone if we wanted coffee. She got everything ready and then realized, after throwing the “brew” button, that you needed power to make coffee. Well, when we try to be Christians without power, all we can manage is being likeable, benevolent people. However, when we tap into THE power source something wonderful and dangerous happens. We become disciple-makers who are in the world but not of it. See you Sunday when we talk about Peter and John and their new-found power. A power that helped them change the world. Do you want to change the world?

Peter has just healed a lame man through the power of Jesus’ name. Or rather, I should say that Jesus’ name healed a lame man through the willingness of Peter to be used! However you say it, one thing is true – it doesn’t make much sense. The people of Peter’s time stand around confused and bewildered. The Gospel told today still befuddles those who, with contorted faces, try to make it fit the system with which they are comfortable. Does the scripture not speak plainly about the world’s reaction to the “foolishness” of the cross? Does it not also speak of the strength of our greatest minds being nothing compared with the weakest wisdom of God? Peter turns to the crowd and begins to tell them of the power of Jesus’ name. To some it is nonsense, to me (and I hope to you), it is a spring of living water and the only name under heaven by which I have been saved. See you Sunday!

“On the Way.” The disciples often found themselves “on the way.” We are all on our way somewhere. Where are you heading? There is a destination and a companion that will light our paths and make our crooked places straight. These disciples where confused by the events of the previous days, but even more confused by the jumbled stories they where receiving about an empty tomb and sightings of a living Jesus. Do you remember when Jesus revealed the scriptures to you? He is the only one who can! And when He does, you will see and believe.

This week, we enter into the most glorious and strangest three days of the Christian year. This week we celebrate the fact that our Savior brought us back into right relationship with God, but we also ponder the mystery that is the death and burial of the Son of God. We believe that he was very God of very God, and we also believe that he laid in a tomb through Black Saturday. Thank you Father for the love shown on the Cross. Thank you Father for the victory won when the stone rolled away from the mouth of the grave. Because of your great love for us, we now can love!

This week we will be looking back to the triumphal entry! Christ enters Jerusalem to the roaring cheers of the crowd. It is impossible to know what he must have been feeling when he looked out at the impromptu parade knowing that the procession ended at the cross. Napoleon said of Him, “I know men and I tell you that Jesus Christ is no mere man. Between Him and every other person in the world there is no possible term of comparison. Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest the creation of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded His empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for Him.” See you Sunday as we stand in the procession and cry out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”

Ever have to give up your pride to get healed? Sure you have! It is only when Christ deals with our pride that he can begin the good work in us. Nearly every heartache I have encountered has little to do with love and much to do with pride. Pride inflicts wounds while love covers sin. What kind of life do you want to live? Do you want to be an inflicter of wounds and a receiver of scars, or do you want to be a person who shares in the loving work of Christ? They had to raise their eyes to be healed! We too must look to the one who has been raised up, and to do that we have to admit something about our pride! See you Sunday as we walk with Moses once more.
